Amritsar, the spiritual and cultural heart of Punjab, is famed for its Golden Temple, vibrant bazaars, historic landmarks, and the electrifying Wagah Border ceremony. A perfect blend of heritage, food, and rural experiences awaits every traveller.
About Amritsar
Amritsar, located in northwestern India, offers a rich tapestry of history, culture, and cuisine. From the shimmering Golden Temple to the poignant Jallianwala Bagh and the Partition Museum, the city narrates tales of spirituality and history. The Wagah Border ceremony adds a patriotic spectacle, while nearby farms allow visitors to immerse themselves in authentic Punjabi rural life. The streets are lined with iconic dhabas, offering some of the most delicious kulchas, chole, and chaats, making it a haven for food lovers. Bustling markets sell traditional juttis, phulkari, and masalas, perfect for souvenirs.
My Experience
Arriving in Amritsar, I checked into a centrally located hotel and felt instantly welcomed by the city’s warm vibe.
Visiting the Golden Temple at dusk, the reflections in the water and the serene atmosphere left me mesmerised.
Langar at the Golden Temple offered a truly humbling and hygienic experience.
Watching the Wagah Border ceremony was exhilarating, with high-energy patriotic performances and crowds cheering enthusiastically.
The farm experience was unforgettable — tractor rides, plucking fresh vegetables, and enjoying a traditional Punjabi meal in the fields made for a memorable day.
Local shopping in Hall Bazaar and Katra Jaimal Singh Bazaar offered unique handicrafts and masalas that I still cherish.
