A serene hill town nestled in the Nilgiris, Coonoor offers lush tea plantations, tranquil trails, and old-world colonial charm.
About Coonoor
Coonoor, often overshadowed by its bustling cousin Ooty, is the quieter and more scenic gem of the Nilgiris. Ideal for travellers seeking peace, nature walks, and tea-scented breezes, it’s home to charming heritage stays, verdant plantations, and breathtaking viewpoints like Dolphin’s Nose and Lamb’s Rock. Sim’s Park showcases rare botanical species, while curated tea experiences at Tranquilitea and Highfield Estate introduce you to the region’s famed Nilgiri brews. The town retains a colonial touch, best enjoyed through guided walks or high tea at a heritage resort.
My Experience
Waking up amidst tea gardens at Teanest Nightingale was the perfect start to our hill escape. The walk through Sim’s Park was peaceful, and our tea tasting at Tranquilitea was not only informative but incredibly scenic. A private picnic in the plantations, arranged by our resort, made the trip truly special. The food at La Belle Vie and Café Diem offered a delightful balance of comfort and quality.
