A historic city in central India known for its majestic fort, regal palaces, classical music legacy, and spiritual landmarks.
About Gwalior
Gwalior, located in Madhya Pradesh, is a city steeped in history, culture, and architectural brilliance. Renowned for the imposing Gwalior Fort, the city also boasts grand palaces, temples, and a deep-rooted association with Indian classical music, being the home of Tansen. From its Mughal-era tombs and bustling bazaars to scenic temples like the Sun Temple and hidden heritage gems such as Bateshwar, the city offers an immersive cultural experience for history lovers, art aficionados, and leisure travellers alike. It’s also a vegetarian food haven with charming cafes and local thali stops.
My Experience
Gwalior amazed us with its grandeur and charm. Climbing the fort on Day 1 was unforgettable—Man Singh Palace was like a step back in time. Day 2's palaces and tombs showed us the royal and spiritual depth of the city. The day trip to Bateshwar and Mitawali temples was a surprise highlight—an archaeological wonder in the heart of nowhere. Shopping in Sarafa Bazaar was vibrant, and sipping chai at a local café while watching the bustle made us feel part of the city. Gwalior is under-rated and truly rewarding.
