About Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai, Thailand’s northernmost city, offers a serene retreat filled with spiritual sites, vibrant artistic landmarks, and breathtaking nature. Less crowded than its sister city Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai is ideal for travellers seeking authenticity and calm. Highlights include stunning structures like the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), the mystical Blue Temple, and the thought-provoking Black House Museum. With luxury eco-resorts, ethical elephant encounters, and panoramic views of the Mekong, Chiang Rai is a destination that gently nurtures the soul while captivating the senses.
My Experience
My time in Chiang Rai (Days 6–9) was filled with peaceful exploration and meaningful encounters. Upon arrival, I visited the sacred Wat Phra Kaew, the original home of the Emerald Buddha, followed by the lesser-known but deeply spiritual Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong. Day 7 took me on a visual journey through Chiang Rai’s artistic side – from the glittering White Temple and the vibrant Blue Temple to the dark and introspective Baan Dam Museum. Day 8 was a standout as I sailed along the Mekong River through the Golden Triangle and uncovered the region’s complex past at the Hall of Opium Museum. On the final day, I embraced stillness – enjoying a luxurious spa treatment, peaceful moments by the pool, and quiet reflection at the Four Seasons Tented Camp, making it the perfect end to a tranquil journey.
