Lima, the vibrant capital of Peru, is a coastal city where history, food, and culture collide. Known for its colonial architecture, Pacific views, and globally recognised culinary scene, Lima is an essential stop for every traveller to Peru.
About Lima
Lima is Peru's largest city and cultural heart, blending rich colonial history with contemporary urban energy. From the colourful, bohemian streets of Barranco to the upscale elegance of Miraflores, Lima is full of character and contrast. Whether you're walking along the scenic Malecón cliffs, exploring pre-Incan ruins like Huaca Pucllana, or dining in one of Latin America's top restaurants, Lima offers a dynamic experience. The city's food scene is world-class, with a wide array of vegetarian options woven into Peruvian-Japanese fusion and modern Andean cuisine.
My Experience
Upon arriving in Lima, we settled into the artistic Barranco neighbourhood. The evening stroll along the Malecón offered stunning ocean views and a romantic sunset. We explored Parque del Amor and admired local art galleries before dining at Maido, an exceptional Nikkei fusion restaurant.
The next day was filled with culture and cuisine. A morning in Barranco led us through vibrant street art, the iconic Bridge of Sighs, and boutique shops. Later, we visited Huaca Pucllana and considered a surf lesson before enjoying a flavourful vegetarian lunch at El Mercado. Dinner at Lima 27 was a highlight, offering a refined vegetarian tasting menu in a sophisticated setting.
